This is a Pro Tip. Throughout the guide, there are lots of helpful little hints. We recommend you pay attention to them. Unless you want everyone pointing and laughing at you and calling you a newb.
It's easy and free to get Smashball and start playing. All you need is a copy of Half-Life 2. This page explains how to get set up. Once you're ready to play, check out the Gameplay pages -- they explain the interface and the various moves.

As of June 11, Smashball will be available as a FREE DOWNLOAD on Steam! For the time being, we have taken down our old installer. The only version available is our public playtest build. It takes a little bit of work to set up, and we only have scheduled games on Sundays at Noon, Pacific Time. Check out our Playtester Instructions to find out more.
There are a few special keys that Smashball has that aren’t present in most games of its kind. You can set them up on the Options screen under the main menu.
From the OPTIONS item on the main menu, pick what keys you want for Turbo, Ball, and Hook. This guy uses weird keys, pick something you like.
Launch the game. The first item on the menu is labelled 'PLAY TUTORIAL'. Go there. Do it. It's the fastest way to pick up the basics of the game. It's also a nice pressure-free way to practice your maneuvering and ball-handling.
Registered users get to add Skills. You'll quickly get access to all the skills you need. Higher level players will be able to bring more skills into a match, but only one skill from each tier can be active at once.
When you first start the tutorial, you'll be prompted to register. When you register, you'll start to accumulate XP, and gain Levels. Every time you level up, you'll be able to add more Skills to your arsenal. You will also start to get a lot of V1@gr@ ads. Just kidding. We will only use your e-mail for internal purposes.
Check out the Gameplay pages to learn more about the Interface, different Positions, and other fine things.
