Pro Tip!
Watch the Clock!

Clock awareness is key in Smashball! Pay attention to how much time is left in the round; it can really help your game.

- Fred "MudGuppy" Walters

A standard Smashball match consists of 6 rounds that last 3 minutes each. Barring overtime, this gives players 18 minutes to score as many points as they can against the other team.

Tip Off

At the beginning of every round, both teams spawn at their Home Spawns and the ball spawns in the center of the field. Players must race to get the ball. Typically Forwards get there first, as they are the fastest position.

The ball always spawns in the same place every time, in the center of the field.

Pro Tip!
When is a Shot not a Shot?

A team can't score on itself. So if you walk into your own goal with the ball, it's not a score. Same thing if you Fumble the ball in.

Scoring

In a normal match, teams score in two ways:

  • A Run is when a team carries the ball into the enemy goal. It is worth 7 points.
  • A Shot is when the ball enters a goal after being last touched by an enemy player. It is worth 3 points.

When a goal is scored, play immediately stops. The game pauses for a few seconds so that the scoring player can bask in the glory, and the enemy Goalie can be mocked mercilessly. Players then respawn and play starts again:

  • The team that scored starts at their home spawns.
  • The team that was scored on starts at their Midfield Spawns, placing them closer to the ball.
  • The ball respawns in the center of the field.

Buzzer Beaters

No scores count after the clock ends the round. If the ball or ballcarrier is not in the goal by the end of the round, there is no score, even if the ball or ballcarrier falls into the goal.

Dead Ball

If the ball is not touched for 20 seconds, play stops, and another tip-off is held, with both teams spawning at their home spawns.
